A human chain was organised in the Sylhet city on Tuesday in protest at the construction of a dam under a hydro-electric project of the Indian government in the upstream of trans-boundary River Sari.

Bangladesh Environment Movement and Sari Nadi Banchaw Andolan, a social forum to protect the river, jointly organised the protest programme in the morning in front of the Central Shaheed Minar in the city.

Meghalaya state chief minister Mukul Sangma is supposed to inaugurate first unit of the Leska-Mainthru Hydroelectric Project as chief guest today (Wednesday), they said citing Indian newspapers.

SNBA president Abdul Hai Al-Hadi chaired the programme addressed, among others, by Shahjalal University of Science and Technology former registrar Zamilur Ahmed Chowdhury, BEM Sylhet unit vice-president EU Shahidul Islam and secretary Abdul Kaim Kim, senior reporter Al Azad, Abdul Malik Jaka, Sangram Singha and Mainul Haq Bulbul, Manipuri Social Welfare Society president Nirmal Singha, Goainghat Development Forum president Anwar Hosen, Kanaighat Sachetan Nagorik Forum president Abdur Rahim.
